Protect Bowen Island's Coastal Rainforest from Logging

Beautiful Bowen Island is under threat from massive logging.
BC Timber Sales or BCTS (a "semi-autonomous" agent of the former B.C. provincial government under the Ministry of Forests, Lands & Natural Resources Operations) has begun the process of opening up Bowen's provincial Crown land to commercial logging.
This would be disastrous not only for the Island's coastal temperate rainforest ecology, but also for tourism: a primary source of income for many Islanders. Just a 20 minute ferry ride from West Vancouver, Bowen is an oasis of natural calm and tranquility that provides a crucial haven from the pressures of urban living for nearby city-dwellers and thousands of annual tourists.
The Bowen Island community was only given two weeks' notice of a July 30th open house by BCTS, which is apparently being offered to meet their stated corporate commitment to "Communication and Transparency". Requests to change the date to give the community more time to respond have been met with refusal. The timing of the meeting (mid-summer when many Islanders are either on vacation or heavily engaged in the tourism industry) is suspicious and suggests a lack of good faith.
BTCS's motives are clear. BCTS is projecting that its timber supply in the B.C. Interior will decrease over the next few years due to the impacts of the Mountain Pine Beetle and pressure by First Nations (see BCTS Current Business Plan below). It is looking to expand its timber supply elsewhere.
However, as the "War in the Woods" over Clayoquot Sound highlighted, coastal temperate rainforests are not equivalent to the B.C. Interior forests and do not recover from logging. Coastal temperate rainforests are not subject to the same natural fire and regrowth cycle.
More importantly, coastal temperate rainforests are one of the best carbon storehouses on the planet, with accumulated carbon storage of above 1000 tonnes per hectare (see Sierra Club B.C.'s Coast Forest Report 2009 below). Coastal temperate rainforests are, therefore, a key asset in the fight against climate change.
Arguably, BCTS would be violating its own recently stated corporate commitment to combating climate change by logging Bowen Island's coastal rainforests (see BCTS Corporate Commitment webpage below).
