ABOUT US
We are a group of concerned Fijians dismayed, offended and disgusted by the Fiji Sun's bullying, arrogance and profiteering off the tragic rape and death of Mere Ailevu and the grief of her family.
SIGN THE PETITION
We hereby petition the Media Authority to apply the law under the Media Decree equally to all media organisations. In this case MIDA has remained silent about the Fiji Sun's continued poor standards and arrogance and repeat of its insensitive and offensive headlines which seem designed to shock and tittilate to improve its sales.
We demand an apology from the Fiji Sun, to start with. We also demand transparent measures to improve its journalistic standards.
We petition MIDA to apply the code of ethics in the media decree and if Fiji Sun is found guilty of breach by the Media Tribunal, that fines be considered to be applied to Fiji Sun and its owners, CJ Patel.
This petition serves as a formal complaint to Minister of Information Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyun and to MIDA chairman Ashwin Raj against the Fiji Sun for its leaderboard of Sunday 20 March 2016 as a breach of sections 9, 15, 20 and 25 of the media code of ethics under the media decree, and any other relevant provisions of the Media Decree and Code of Conduct that may have been breached.
RECONSIDER GOVERNMENT ADVERTISING IN FIJI SUN
We call on the Minister of Information and the Government of Fiji to reconsider the grant of exclusive government and statutory body advertising in the Fiji Sun. We do not want our tax dollars supporting arrogant, unethical and insensitive journalism.
BOYCOTT FIJI SUN
If MIDA will not act, we the people will in the meantime exercise our right not to buy the Fiji Sun and other CJ Patel products.
