Ashford Hospitality Trust Give Back the 58.7 million dollar PPP Loan

Ashford Hospitality Trust Give Back the 58.7 million dollar PPP Loan

The Issue

So many small business owners are trying to hold on to their businesses and employees, yet large publicly traded companies (like Ashford Hospitality Trust and its subsidiaries owned by Monty Bennett) pay lobbyists and slide past the rules.

Ashford Hospitality took $58.7 million in tax payer financed loans from the PPP small business loan program. That amount is 3 times more than is allowed at the highest amount by Cares Act Rules. And this is the same corporation that owns several Hyatt Hotels, a Ritz Carlton Hotel and the Marriott Beverly Hills.

As they were working on getting these PPP loans, Monty and other executives from Ashford paid themselves 2 million dollars plus in dividend payments as shown in SEC filings, prior to receiving their government backed loans. This out of touch CEO went further to complain online that small business owners should not get this kind of access to funds because its more important for bigger businesses to get these bailouts because they employ more people.

This is unfair and we need to band together as a nation to support and protect those who have dumped their entire life savings and actual life to operate their small business this PPP funding is for them. They cannot turn to big banks and stockholders to inject money to their companies to help them survive Like Monty Bennet and Ashford can.

This petition is to appeal to Ashford Hospitality Trust, Ashford Inc. all of its subsidiaries, and Monty Bennett  to return the 58.7 million dollars loan and let small business have a chance to survive with that money.
