Brother Wolf Foster Parents being deceived

Brother Wolf in Asheville, NC started out as a pet rescue and a shelter for animals and even offered the promise of a sanctuary, but they have now turned into a high-turnover ‘pet store’ and in a case like the puppies of Matisse outlined below, a ‘puppy mill’.
Another group of people who have been deceived and let down by Executive Director Leah at Brother Wolf are the foster parents. Recently, foster dog Koje was brought back to the ‘shelter’ by her foster parents only to be killed by Leah. Her foster parents were never told this was going to happen and Leah allowed them to devote their time, talents and treasure to Koje and to fall in love with her. They are devastated. If you know any current foster parents at Brother Wolf, please warn them about what is happening there. Many long-term foster parents may not be aware of the changes in the Brother Wolf kill policies which have occurred. Please let them know there are other fostering option in Asheville such as Mountain Pet Rescue and the Asheville Humane Society, both wonderful, compassionate organizations.
Please read the story of Matisse below. This is another story of a Brother Wolf foster parent being treated like trash. It is the story of Matisse’s puppies being sold and then Matisse being killed.

"September 14, 2018 Hurricane Florence was threatening the Carolinas and heavy rain and flooding was predicted for Asheville.
The BWAR Adoption Center is located in an area that is very prone to flooding and a call went out to evacuate the shelter prior to the weather event.
I began volunteering for BWAR in September of 2016 donating my time as an Outward Hounds hiker. When I responded to the call for help I was asked if I could take a mother with 4 one week old puppies.
When I arrived at the adoption shelter I was quickly introduced to Matisse and her pups.
All I was told is that she was spotted chained to a tire and the owner was convinced to surrender her and her puppies.
She was about 2 years old and “sweet”. When I got her to my house I took them to a room that was separated from my four dogs. I was able to get the puppies out of the crate and settle them in while Matisse watched.
She did not display any aggression. She loved any attention we could give her. She especially love getting up in my husband’s lap.
Friends came over and she was just as friendly to them and let them hold her puppies as well.
Once she weaned the puppies I took her back to the adoption center. I fostered Matisse and her puppies for about 5 weeks. The puppies were adopted quickly.
At the AC Matisse displayed severe dog reactivity anytime a dog passed her kennel. She also climbed the kennel fence and was able to enter another dogs kennel causing injuries to her & the other dog that required stitches.
Eventually she was placed in the very back corner of the Adoption Center and a sheet barrier was placed in front of her kennel.
Although that made it so much easier to get her out for walks without passing other dogs it also decreased her visibility for potential adopters.
I would always visit her on hiking days and she loved belly rubs and getting out for walks.
In August, when I decided to no longer volunteer at BWAR, she was still in that area. To my knowledge she has never been aggressive towards a human. It makes me sad she never got her chance."
Matisse was unnecessarily euthanized by BWAR, along with 16 other dogs since August 2019.
5 other dogs were killed along Matisse on the same day.
