Free James Harold Strother: Help bring an innocent man home

Free James Harold Strother: Help bring an innocent man home

The Issue

From 1971, my uncle has been serving life in prison for first degree murder of Marshall Stout - a crime he did not commit. That's 50 years!

Since I was a child, I have been in written communication with my uncle, James H. Strother. He is listed at the Arkansas Department of Correction as James H. Strouthers and photos of him shows James H. Strothers (#062334).

Over the years, both my Uncle James and mother have constantly stated that he is innocent and wrongly convicted. He was beaten by the North Little Rock Police and forced into a verbal and written confession. He was later convicted by an all white jury. Both my mother and me have written multiple news agencies, the NAACP, Rainbow Push, and even tv personalities like Oprah Winfrey.

Since 1999, my uncle has petition for release through executive clemency, each time the board has recommended his release for parole, but no sitting governor in Arkansas, who has the final decision, agreed.

In 2008, my uncle’s story was featured in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. I continue to write my uncle, and recently he provided information that we hope can help get him released. As of May 4, 2018, he was listed as #5 for the Interstate Compact Transfer waiting list for Illinois.

My family lives in Chicago, IL, and we're looking to make enough noise for the local media to bring attention to my uncle's case. We need official legal agencies to look into my uncle's case to prove his innocence and for Governor Asa Hutchinson to grant Executive Clemency, and release him from the Cummins Unit of the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

How You Can Help

James Strothers' family have set up this petition to gather signatures to advocate for his clemency. Please add your name (and address if you live in Arkansas) to call for his release. Residents of Arkansas can boost James' chances of freedom.
