Many Arkansas schools are planning to reopen for onsite instruction next month. We are in the middle of a deadly pandemic and we should not be putting our children, teachers, and school staff at risk. Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson said he is not ready to further ease restrictions on businesses while coronavirus cases in the state continue to spike. If restrictions on business cannot be lifted, we should not be sending our children back to school. Keeping our children, teachers, and school staff safe should be our #1 priority. All public schools in the state of Arkansas should continue remote online learning for the fall semester.

At this time, guidance from the Arkansas Department of Health and the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education does not include taking temperatures or screening children before entering the school and the ADH has not issued a directive to require face coverings. The guidelines they have issued have left parents and educators with more questions than answers.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country's top infectious disease expert, told members of Congress on Tuesday 6/30 that although he can't predict the ultimate number of infections and deaths related to the coronavirus, "it's going to be very disturbing. I would not be surprised if we go up to 100,000 a day if this does not turn around," he told the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, which convened to discuss plans for reopening schools and offices that have been shuttered by the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

If the state of Arkansas does not take action and direct all public schools to continue remote online learning for the fall semester, hundreds of thousands of children and school staff will be returning to campus in a few short weeks. By signing this petition, you agree that student and staff safety should be a top priority and remote online learning should continue until it is safe to reopen schools.
