Petitioning Arts Council England

In the light of the cessation of NPO support for 'Jazz Services', we request Arts Council England enable adequate funding for 'Jazz Services' to continue their invaluable work for UK Jazz

Jazz Services have supported individual musicians, promoters and audiences throughout the UK, enabling enterprising artists and promoters to have their voices heard in the music industry. The loss or reduction of Jazz Services would be felt widely across musicians, promoters and jazz audiences. Jazz Services serves as an essential part of the infrastructure of the jazz arts community throughout the UK, crossing community borders.

Examples of funding Jazz Services provides are:

  • National Touring Support Schemes

  • Rural Touring Support Schemes

  • Jazz Promoter Awards

  • Recording Support Scheme

These awards directly enable venues across the UK to schedule and curate arts events. They enable independant artists across the UK to tour and record. They also enable audiences, (including rural areas) across the UK to be introduced to touring artists from outside their community. These are fundamental connecting infrastructures that have been established and maintained by Jazz Services (including their invaluable online database and directory), all of which would be under threat without adequate financial support.

Jazz Services posted on their website:  "Jazz Services is obviously extremely disappointed with the decision.  This is a huge blow to the UK’s jazz artists, promoters and audiences, as without Jazz Services’ extremely popular and successful funding schemes – the National Touring Support Schemes, Rural Touring Support Schemes and the Jazz Promoter Awards among them - it leaves large portions of the country without provisions for funding and support for grass-roots jazz music."

We the undersigned urge the Arts Council England to either reconsider its decision or enable alternative funding to allow 'Jazz Services' to continue their invaluable work for UK Jazz beyond March 2015.
