Yesterday (Dec. 16th), I took my 15 yr old son to the San Francisco Public Library to hear the amazing artist Karla Ortiz, whose art was used without permission to "train" AI, along with sociologist and AI ethicist Dr. Alex Hanna, talk about the promises and pitfalls of AI. Anyone familiar with San Francisco knows how difficult it can be to find parking in that area, but when we finally arrived to the discussion, it was well worth the parking battle.
As always Karla delivered spicy arguments on the issue with Alex reinforcing their well-informed banter with tech-savvy knowledge (I mean just look at her resume and you'll get the picture). I’m so grateful we have such amazing people advocating for the tens of thousands of artists around the world.
If you are new to the issues artists are facing regarding the theft of copyrighted artwork to train AI Generative models, I just want to say thank you for your interest in getting informed on this very important issue. If you want to show your support with a donation, please consider donating to the Concept Art Association’s GoFundMe as they make tremendous strides in Washington, D.C., on behalf of all artists.
In gratitude,
Cory
