Remove Frances Abbott's late entry from this year's Archibald Prize. Issue a statement clarifying this matter. Apply the same rules and standards to all entrants. Keep Australia above the corruption and nepotism that damages so many other countries.

The issue

Applying different rules to entrants goes against one thing that has made Australia into a great place to live: the philosophy of a fair go for all.

If one applicant is allowed to submit late, this disrespects the other entrants who have made the effort and adhered to the rules.

It also sends the message that the AGNSW favours artists according to their background, which in turn cheapens the image of the AGNSW.

Remove Frances Abbott's late entry from this year's Archibald Prize. Henceforth apply the same rules and standards to all entrants. Keep Australia above the corruption and nepotism that damages so many other countries.

Please issue a statement that clarifies this situation in order to put our minds at rest.

Responded
The Archibald Prize attracts a great deal of attention each year, some of which is satirical in nature and factually incorrect. The Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize 2015 has not received, registered as an entry, nor selected as a finalist, a portrait of Prime Minister Abbott by any artist and can confirm the claims substantiated within this petition are false. The Art Gallery of New South Wales has selected a total of 47 finalists for this year’s Archibald Prize, all of which can be viewed at the Art Gallery of New South Wales when the exhibition opens next Saturday 18 July 2015. These portraits can also be viewed at www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au. Kind regards Art Gallery of New South Wales
