The Issue

Officer Connor Reinsch was excessively speeding 25 mph over the speed limit without his lights or sirens, on his way to a non-emergency call when he struck and killed Katherine Michelle Colon on September 21st, 2023. The City of New Britain has not taken any disciplinary actions against Officer Reinsch. It has taken the State 5 months to investigate this tragedy. The District Attorney, Maurine Platt told us that Officer Reinsch’s unnecessary speeding and lack of use of lights or sirens are not significant enough to press charges against him. Meanwhile, he committed motor vehicle homicide by operating his vehicle recklessly, traveling over 50mph on a 25mph main road. Officer Reinsch admitted on camera that he was not paying attention to the road when he struck and killed Katherine while she was crossing the street. The City of New Britain, Mayor Erin Stewart, and the New Britain Police Chief Matthew Marino know Officer Reinsch killed Katherine unjustifiably, and yet they refuse to hold him accountable for her death.

District Attorney Platt’s report cast blame on Katherine instead of holding officer Connor Reinsch accountable for excessive speeding without lights or sirens on. We need to hold the police accountable for their reckless actions that lead to people’s deaths, rather than blaming the victims of these officers’ negligence. Police are not above the law and need to be held to the same standards as civilians. New Britain Police should not have officers operating their vehicle at high speeds without their lights or sirens on for non-emergency calls.

Our Demands:

  • Fire Connor Reinsch for recklessly and illegally operating his vehicle at excessive speeds to a non-emergency call
  • Press charges against Connor Reinsch for Motor Vehicle Homicide

Take action and sign the petition to DEMAND #JusticeforKatherine by urging the NB Police Department to fire Connor Reinsch and State Attorney Maurine Platt to press charges against Officer Reinsch for Motor Vehicle Homicide.
