On the streets of Dracut, Massachusetts, reckless cyclists are putting lives in danger — and it’s time for real consequences.

Videos show large groups of riders popping wheelies, swerving through traffic, and darting in front of moving cars along Lakeview Avenue and other major roads. “They’re playing chicken with vehicles,” said one local resident who filmed a group mid-stunt. “We were scared we were going to hit someone — or that they’d hit us.”

This isn’t an isolated incident. Drivers and pedestrians say the behavior has become routine — and many feel it’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt or killed. But so far, efforts to curb the chaos have fallen flat. One local business owner even tried handing out free stickers to riders who promised to stop — no one showed up.

Dracut Police say they’ve issued some citations and seized bikes in the past, but the response hasn’t matched the urgency of the danger. Law enforcement says it’s hard to predict where the riders will be. But when dozens of residents are capturing this on video, it’s clear the problem is visible — and ongoing.

We demand that the Dracut Police Department take stronger, immediate action — including arrests and charges where appropriate — against cyclists who endanger public safety. This isn’t about cracking down on bike riding. It’s about enforcing basic laws that protect lives.

No more warnings. No more excuses. When people block traffic and stunt-ride into oncoming cars, that’s not just reckless — it’s criminal. Waiting until someone ends up in the hospital or worse is not an acceptable strategy.
