Make Crusher Lot an Official Mountain Bike Park

The Issue

As some of you may know, the crusher lot behind Ottoson Middle School has become a safe, fun, and easily accesible place for people to ride mountain bikes. This area of land is awesome for us mountain bikers, because it doesn't have many walkers or other visitors for the land, and its kind of a dump. Neighbors to the property use it as wasteland for all their landscaping scraps, and on any given day you will find dog waste bags and old trash. This land is no walkers first choice to come and observe wildlife. The main uses for the crusher lot consist of dog walkers that live within a 5 minutes of the lot, and teenagers going to light little fires with twigs and use marijuana. The reason this stuff is good for bikers, is because we wouldn't be doing any disservice to the community by limiting walker use here. Menotomy Rocks Park is only a 2 minute ride away, so there is still a much more suitable place for dog walkers and other members of the community.

Not only is the crusher lot not a prime piece of land, but the geography and environment is perfect for bike trails. It has a perfect incline for fun downhill trails, rocks and logs for obstacles, and the pedal up is nothing too harsh.

Mountain Biking is a sport that is taking on rapid growth right now. Teenagers and adults all around the world are getting into the sport and enjoying it for the fun it is. It's something that people of all ages can enjoy, and it's obvious why. There are so many different disciplines for people that enjoy different types of riding, and there is always something for everyone. A mountain bike park would help so many people progress in the sport and take on new hobbies. It's easily accesible for people all over town, and would be perfect for everyone. So many new people are getting into the sport and I am positive that hundreds more would be so excited to see a bike park pop up.

If we were allowed to turn this into a bike park, we would need no money or grant from the town, no constant care and upkeep from the town conservation officials, and no reason for you to spend any more of your time on it than it is now. We would just like permission. We would handle the building, mapping, signage, and outreach for the park.

Please, sign this petition to allow hundreds are Arlington Community members to enjoy this land to its fullest.
