The Arlington High School senior class of 2020 has been robbed of their senior year, just as many other seniors around New York state and our country. Unlike other schools who have already committed to a socially distanced graduation, Arlington will be hosting a drive by graduation. The students will not even be handed their diploma, they will be handed the cover it should be in. Drive by graduations cause traffic jams and will take away the happy feeling seniors should be gaining with a normal graduation. Seniors want this to be a happy day, not a day to have people upset about the noise and traffic it will bring. They do not want to sit in hours of traffic not seeing their friends or teachers again, not even to be handed their actual diploma.12-13 years of each senior’s life was spent working towards the diploma and not only will they not receive it in person they will now be receiving it through the mail. Arlington High School has a football field capable of holding at least 500 students safely while socially distanced. If the class is divided into two groups, and each student is allowed only two guests there will be an opportunity for a safe and socially distanced graduation. In addition, the graduation could be live-streamed on youtube for other family members and friends to watch.
