The Child Diagnostic Unit is at risk of not being signed into a new contract by the 3 Medicaid PASSEs. The CDU is one of the only programs in the state of its kind. It allows families to stay with a child, providing trauma informed care. The program takes children with severe developmental delays, along with medical illnesses. The CDU is the only one who’s goal is diagnostic clarification and medication reconciliation. Losing this service would be detrimental to such a vulnerable population.

The Child Diagnostic Unit, is the only program in Arkansas that offers admission for children who need a comprehensive (psychological, medical, psychiatric, language, life skills, and motor) assessment and to have their medications carefully reassessed and adjusted. The admission is 28 days, at the end of which families and the school will receive a report summarizing the findings and further treatment recommendations.

These services can not be done simply on an outpatient level!
