This fall, Arkansas voters could rein in the influence of special interest money in state elections, increase transparency and accountability, and make the voices of everyday voters heard – but they won’t be able to if Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge isn’t required to do her job.

Rutledge is blocking a proposed November ballot initiative to give voters the chance to increase transparency and accountability in Arkansas elections. Rather than do her job and either approve the measure or offer constructive feedback, she has repeatedly rejected the measure due to minor quibbles and often without offering any constructive feedback at all.  

Now, an attorney is suing Rutledge to demand she do her job and let the voters have a say – and we need your help to send a powerful message to Rutledge that Arkansas voters expect her to do her job.

This fall, Arkansas voters deserve a say in whether we will rein in the influence of big money in our state elections. We demand that you stop blocking a proposed November ballot initiative to give voters the chance to increase transparency and accountability in Arkansas elections.

You have repeatedly rejected the measure due to minor quibbles and often without offering any constructive feedback at all, and it is time for this obstruction to stop! 

It should not take being sued by voters of our state for you to do your job. It is time for you to approve an ethics initiative for Arkansans to have a voice in reforming our state’s ethics laws.

The proposed ballot measure would reduce the influence of big donors in our elections and would ensure that voters know who’s trying to influence their vote. It’s a commonsense fix to a problem that most Arkansas voters agree on: big money has too much influence in our politics. 

We ask simply that you fulfill your constitutional duties and approve the ethics ballot measure now that your feedback has been addressed. As voters and as Arkansans, we demand that you adhere to the law and treat this initiative as you would any other so that the voters can have their say.
