The Dental Therapy Bill was signed into law by Governor Ducey five days ago. The new law places the following restrictions on dental therapists practicing in the state: - Dental therapists must first be a licensed dental hygienist - Dental therapists must attend a CODA-accredited dental therapy program (there are currently no such programs in the United States) - No more than 4 dental therapists may work under a collaborative agreement with any one dentist. - Dental therapists may only work in federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), on native reservation lands, and for charitable organizations. - Dental therapists may not be reimbursed by third party payors.
