We did it! Arianna Huffington graciously responded to our petition this afternoon, and the Huffington Post will be launching an Accessibility section as part of their What's Working Initiative. Huffington Post will be the first major media outlet to give persons with disabilities a dedicated media platform to share stories and news that is relevant to the community! As recognized by many supporters of this petition, Huffington Post already leads the way with its focus on social justice and includes many bloggers much news coverage about disability. By reorganizing this content into an Accessibility section, disability-related content will be collected into a section that makes it much easier to find for its audience. The disability rights movement is just as important as every other social justice movement, and Huffington Post will be the media leader in giving us more substantial recognition and visibility. This will not only bring greater visibility to the disability community as a whole, but will hopefully expand the number of persons with disabilities sharing their stories through this powerful platform, as well as the number of people listening to and learning from them. I look forward to working with Huffington Post as they set up and carry out this wonderful plan. Thanks again to Ms. Huffington for her response, as well as to Editorial Director Danny Shea, who listened to our concerns and helped to hone the final idea for this addition.
