Are you, a rider in the NZSBK series, against control tyres for 2026 season and beyond?
The issue
MNZ has appointment a promoter for the NZSBK 2026 season.
The Promoter has announced a switch to a single tyre manufacturer (Bridgestone) without asking riders of the sport their thoughts or preference.
The large majority of competitors and suppliers to the motorcycle industry have not been made aware that MNZ were considering utilising a promoter and also a control tyre for the series.
Many competitors, with existing partnership agreements with other brands spanning upwards of two decades, stand to be negatively affected with the brands they have learnt to trust such as Dunlop, Metzeler, Michelin and Pirelli amongst others.
There is much controversy surrounding control tyres and whether it benefits the sport or riders. We believe it does not. It's essential to recognize that every competitor has a unique preference. The cost to become the brand of control tyre used is often inevitably recovered in the cost of the tyres to the rider.
Moreover, considering New Zealand's sporting scope and size, it is in the interest of fair competition to allow an open selection for tyre brands.
Sign this petition if you disagree with the intended use of a control tyre situation for the NZSBK 2026 Season.
