Hello everyone. I think it's worth noting we are trying to save Arclight Cinemas as well. It's unfortunate that nobody in Hollywood has reached out about helping or acquiring the Cinerama Dome or Arclight Cinemas. We have had zero comments about the situation from Spielberg or Tarantino. The current rumor is that Rick Caruso (who is directly responsible for forcing Arclight to shut down) is interested in taking over Pacific's The Grove & Americana locations himself and operating them. If this does not happen, he will most likely hand it over to Cinepolis. As for Arclight Cinemas and the Cinerama Dome it's being reported that Marcus Theaters & AMC Theaters are interested in taking over the Arclight locations including Sunset blvd. If AMC does take over the location, they will not keep the Arclight brand, which will be extremely unfortunate. This would mean no more Arclight Cafe/ lobby, no more Arclight Presents showings or Q&A's, no more 35mm and 70mm film projectors, employees not trained on how to operate the projectors sufficiently. AMC does not have screen masking at it's theaters resulting in the wrong aspect ratio being shown. If AMC can't even operate the projectors and sound correctly at its thousands of locations across America, how will they get the Cinerama dome right? AMC already has a monopoly on theaters in LA. Also, AMC plays about 25 minutes of commercials compared to Arclight's 3 trailers policy. AMC stands for the complete opposite of what Arclight Cinemas stood for. It would also mean more blockbuster films would play and less independent films.
I understand this is a much better scenario than the building being demolished, but hopefully whatever happens the Arclight brand will stay or they will continue to operate it in a similar manner. It would be much better if a company like Landmark Cinemas or Alamo Drafthoue took over, but that's my personal opinion. And also, let's not forget since Rick Caruso is running for Mayor of LA in 2022, that he is the one who is responsible for Arclight Cinemas closing.
