Justice for Archie Williams

The Issue

Archie Williams was freed from prison on Thursday after a court determined that he was wrongly convicted of rape and attempted murder in 1982. He spent 36 years behind bars, and a fingerprint database cleared him in hours.

According to wrongful conviction lawyers, this is the cost for reparations in Louisiana:

"$25,000 per year for each year of wrongful imprisonment, not to exceed a total of $250,000.  The court may also consider requests for payment, up to an additional $80,000, for job-skills training, medical and counseling services, and tuition."

$25,000 x 36 years = $900,000 worth of reparations for Mr. Archie Williams.
