Just let the girls wrestle!

My daughter Molly Brangan is on the Junior Raiders Wrestling team in Philadelphia PA which is part of the Inter County Wrestling League (ICWL). The club is located at Archbishop Ryan High School.  There are currently three other girls in the club including girls state champ Cassidy McCusker who has been there since the program was started five years ago, Zoey Laing  and Natalie O’Connell.

Previously Molly and Zoey Wrestled for  Father Judge Junior Crusaders another local Catholic School.  The club has been operating the same way and at the same location for the last five years.   Now the Raiders have just been told by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia that the girls on the team can no longer wrestle at their home gym at Archbishop Ryan High School unless it is against other girls.  If there are no girls on the other teams at their weight they cannot wrestle. Furthermore, other teams that come to our gym and have girls cannot wrestle our teams boys.  Girls wrestling is one of the fastest growing sports and it is not right that in 2020 they are being told they cannot wrestle boys in the same spot they have been wrestling them for the past five years.  These girls just want to wrestle! When they go on the mat gender does not matter they see an opponent they would like to beat and they are all just wrestlers.

Please help these girls show the Philadelphia Archdiocese this is an outdated rule and it needs to change
