Mask and Vaccination Policies in ADOM

The Issue

Petition to the Archdiocese of Miami to make masks optional and immediately stop the labeling of our children's vaccination status on their ID badges for all to see.

We, the parents of students in Catholic Schools across South Florida, are concerned with how the Covid mandates and procedures are being handled in our schools and communities. As a Catholic institution ADOM should be paving the way to instill faith in our children and empower them with a proper education.

It has come to our attention that there are schools requiring that students wear their vaccination status on their ID badges. This goes against every privacy law and quite honestly brings me to think about a time in history in which certain people had to wear the Star of David. This fosters division, psychological and social/emotional stress on our kids. It is public segregation. Vaccination status and medical advice from teachers or school personnel should not be part of the student's experience in school, yet many teachers are talking about this in the classroom.

We understand that there's a desire for the school to identify students who don't need to wear a mask by their vaccination status. But perhaps there could have been an internal document circulated along the faculty to facilitate this process. Quite honestly, mandating masks in general is breaking state law and robbing parents and kids of their freedoms. It is an infringement on their privacy. The alternative chosen by the Archdiocese and some of their schools, to label the children, and clearly single out one group or the other, sets up a precedent primed for controversy. Will they need to drink from separate fountains? Display their HPV vaccination status as well? None of this fosters a Catholic environment which is what we as parents expect when sending our kids to Catholic schools.

As parents we request that this matter be corrected immediately.
