Save the Monastery of the Angels in Los Angeles

The Issue

The Monastery of the Angels in Los Angeles, California is in danger of closing after nearly 100 years of prayerful service to its community. In 1924, the Dominican nuns at the Monastery of the Angels were the first cloistered nuns to come to California. The first Mass was held at the Monastery on Christmas Eve of 1948, and since then the Monastery has been an oasis for all that sits peacefully in one of the most populous cities in the country. The mission of the nuns of the Monastery of the Angels has been and continues to be, to intercede for mankind through their life of prayer.

To support and maintain the Monastery, the nuns sell homemade pumpkin bread, peanut brittle, candies and additionally, have volunteers who run a small gift shop. Recently, they began selling their pumpkin bread and candies online greatly increasing their revenue.

The Los Angeles community has supported this monastery since its inception and the monastery is now in danger of being closed forever. Please help us preserve the Monastery for future generations by signing this petition. We are asking the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the Master of the Dominican Order, and the President of the North American Association of Dominican Monasteries to please reconsider the closure/potential sale of the Monastery.

NOTE: any donations made through this petition on change.org's website will go to promoting this petition, it will NOT go to the Monastery. Thank you!
