The Issue

Women today are overly sexualized. Public advertisements for perfume, clothing, cars, and even food are full of half naked women. The media portrays women as sexual objects often intended to benefit men. Why should we bring this unnecessary sexualization of women’s bodies into the classroom? Why are girls forced to cover their shoulders? I am truly sorry that men sexualize woman in such a way that it is considered "unacceptable" to show my shoulders. I am especially sorry that instead of standing up for woman's rights our school decided to ban shirts with spaghetti straps. By forcing girls to cover their shoulders you are sexualizing yet another part of the female body. Our shoulders are not arousing, enticing or in any ways inappropriate. I am calling all girls and boys at Arcadia High School to sign this petition and lift this ridiculous ban on spaghetti straps! Stand up for women’s rights and sign this petition to repeal the ban of spaghetti straps!
