Add the ability in the game Star Trek Online to travel from one system to another from the bridge of the ship for the price of 10,000 Zen total (not per trip).
The Issue
I recently posted on the STO forums requesting a feature (Sector space travel from the bridge of your ship) be made available and the community's willingness to pay up to 10,000 zen for the feature. As usual the Cryptic forum moderators closed the topic. But forum moderator Askray admitted that it has been requested "millions" of times. So many times in fact that forum threads about this subject are "no longer allowed". If that number is inaccurate, if the number of players willing to pay for this is even 10,000 that's $1,000,000 worth of zen sold.
The current status quo:
Currently in order to travel from one sector block to another space in Star Trek Online, the player must manually steer his/her ship or at the very least click numerous times on different map objects. For instance, to travel from the Kilngon homeworld to Deep Space Nine one must first click the icon to leave the Qo'nos system then once in sector space they must open the sector map, click the sector space border, watch their ship fly from third person view of the outside of the ship to the first stop. Then once there click a confirmation that they want to travel to the next sector. Then in the next sector repeat these steps through two more sectors and finally to DS9. A process that takes a good 5 to 10 minutes but is not very immersive and, frankly, not very Star Trek.
The requested feature:
In all forms of Star Trek shows and movies, the Captain simply tells helm and navigation where to take the ship and they do it. During travel time he gets to be a Captain. In the game this time could be used to browse the c-store (more zen!) or do other various Captain's duties, review and assign bridge officer duties, R&D etc, etc.
Implementation is relatively easy. A "Transwarp" system already exists. Simply adding the ability to Transwarp to any sector, with a delay timer (5 to 10 minutes so that it still takes some time to get there) that is accessible from the bridge is all that is needed. Your character is on the bridge. He directs the helmsman to lay in a course for the Beta Ursae (or any other) sector block, a timer is started and in 5 to 10 minutes he is presented with an option to acknowledge that his ship has arrived in the sector. He can either choose to leave the ship interior and be transported to the sector block or stay inside. During the timed period he cannot leave his ship interior.
That's it. No new graphics, no new designs. Simply take a feature that already exists (transwarp), put a timer on it and make it accessible from the bridge. End of story, $100 worth of zen from thousands of players.
But more than that, you have lag reduced because many players are not clogging up the various sectors with ships travelling or just sitting in sector space and you have a lot of players enjoying a much more immersive and canonically accurate game. The players who don't want this feature simply continue to enjoy the game as it is with zero impact to their gaming experience.
Thanks for your time I hope you'll forward this request to the appropriate parties and we can get this going!
