April Treasure The Weather Proclamation- A Larry Gebert Tribute

April Treasure The Weather Proclamation- A Larry Gebert Tribute
Why this petition matters

It's no joke... KTVB's Meteorologist Larry Gebert passed away on April fools Day, 2022.
At 6 feet, 6 inches tall, He was a big teddy bear who loved Idaho. If you saw him in-person, you knew that the cameras couldn't capture his tall loving spirit.
Whether you knew him or not, for nearly 30 years... He provided weather reports with Anchors Maggie O'Mara & Doug Petcash during the Weekday Morning KTVB segment. As a team, they helped many charities, and provided love to the community.
Larry loved participating at many events all over the valley. From the freezing temperatures of the Polar Bear Make-a-Wish challenge to the Western Idaho Fair and State Rodeo. You would see him travel to McCalls Winter Festival, or BSUs Fiesta Bowl. He even went to the olympics.
So many charities were blessed by his coverage, his love, and his commitment.
So, it is time we honor him.
Our petition requests that Governor Little declare the Month of April as:
Larry's Treasure The Weather & Get Together Non-profit Awareness Month
While the job of being a meteorologist is to forecast the future, Larry showed that diagnosing the weather could power the hearts of many, and despite the changes, good or bad, His perspective of giving back to the community is a trait all residents should work towards.
The community should never forget his work. That is why we choose the month of April instead of May.
Given that Idaho has had some very harsh droughts, caused by growth and low snowpacks, we needed something funny to define the month.
Everyone usually knows that April Showers Bring May Flowers. Plus lately, Idaho Gives is sometimes hosted the last week of April, and the first week of May.
So it seems right that from April 1st to 30th, a month of looking back on Larry's efforts will help us prepare for each Summer season that lies ahead.
