Approve the San Jose Creek Bike Path Project
The Issue
The Goleta San Jose Creek Bike Path - a project that has been in the works for over 20 years and has consistently received majority public support - is in danger of being canceled!
This project will:
- Improve the safety for bikers and pedestrians
- Create a much-needed link between the underserved Old Town community, Goleta Beach, and Calle Real
- Reduce car traffic and encourage alternative transportation
Additionally, the city has already been awarded a $18 MILLION grant to build this path! Yet it is dangerously close to being tanked. Why? Because two of our five Goleta city councilmembers have had to recuse themselves from voting due to living near where the path would be built. This means the other three councilmembers must unanimously agree to move this project forward.
Councilmember Aceves is considering rejecting this project!
If the project is NOT approved to move onto the next stage of review on 10/04, the city will LOSE the grant money and all the work that has been put into this path over the last two decades will go down the drain.
Please, sign this petition to tell Councilmember Aceves you want this path!
Concerns about the environmental impact or want to see other changes to the path plan?
That's okay! This vote on October 4th simply allows the review process to continue forward. It does NOT set the current plan in stone or eliminate any more chances for public comment.

PROYECTO DEL SENDERO MULTIPROPÓSITO DEL ARROYO SAN JOSÉ
El proyecto del sendero multipropósito del Arroyo San José- , un proyecto que ha estado en proceso durante más de 20 años y ha recibido constantemente el apoyo público mayoritario, ¡está en peligro de ser cancelado!
Este proyecto:
- Mejorará la seguridad de ciclistas y peatones
- Creará un vínculo muy necesario entre la comunidad marginada de Old Town, Goleta Beach y Calle Real
- Reducirá el tráfico de automóviles y fomentará el transporte alternativo
Además, ¡la ciudad ya ha recibido una subvención de $18 MILLONES para construir este camino! Sin embargo, está peligrosamente cerca de ser cancelado. ¿Por qué? Porque dos de nuestros cinco concejales de la ciudad de Goleta han tenido que abstenerse de votar por vivir cerca de donde se construiría el camino. Esto significa que los otros tres miembros del consejo deben estar de acuerdo por unanimidad para hacer avanzar este proyecto.
¡El concejal Aceves está considerando rechazar este proyecto!
Si el proyecto NO se aprueba para pasar a la siguiente etapa de revisión el 10/04, la ciudad PERDERÁ el dinero de la subvención y todo el trabajo que se ha realizado en este camino durante las últimas dos décadas se irá por el desagüe.
¡Por favor, firme esta petición para decirle al Concejal Aceves que quiere este proyecto!
