I've witnessed firsthand how student voices are frequently disregarded when it comes to civic engagement and advocacy. It’s a concern deeply personal to me because I am passionate about creating a space where students can express themselves and discuss the pressing issues that affect us all, such as equality, education, healthcare, and human rights. Everyone deserves the chance to be heard, and approving the Progressive Eagles club at Allen High School would send a powerful message that the school supports open dialogue and equal access for all student groups.

At present, our ability to form the Progressive Eagles, a student-led Democratic club, is being hindered, impeding the chance for students to engage actively in advocacy, civic action, and meaningful discussions. As students, it is our right to have access to a platform where we can convene and discuss topics that matter to our generation. Unfortunately, this right is not being upheld, and it's time we address this issue head-on.

Under the Equal Access Act, public secondary schools that receive federal funding must provide equal access to student groups, irrespective of the religious, political, or philosophical content of the speech at their gatherings. Denying the Progressive Eagles the opportunity to establish itself as an official club not only infringes upon our rights protected under this Act but also stifles the diversity of thoughts and opinions among students at Allen High School.

A school environment that fosters open discourse and supports student initiatives is critical. Allowing the formation of clubs like the Progressive Eagles promotes a culture of inclusivity and empowers young individuals to become informed, engaged citizens. It gives students the tools and confidence to participate in civic life, potentially shaping the future leadership of our communities.

We urge Allen High School to uphold the principles of equality and free expression by formally approving the Progressive Eagles as an official student club. Doing so would demonstrate a commitment to empowering students and recognizing their crucial role in shaping our society.
