Approve a school budget that directly impacts and centers the students
The Issue
What does it look like to center our students and their needs? We are dealing with lives - the lives and futures of our youngest community members. The lives of the adults who work with them, transport them, feed them, and educate them. We must focus on supporting and improving the lives of our students, and the staff and educators who support them each and every day.
We can all agree, selfless educators who devote their lives to supporting our children deserve the space, respect, and position to share their concerns and make decisions. However, when that space is created through bullying and abusive behavior, their thoughts, ideas, and voice are diminished and severely overshadowed by this corruption.
Hear the community voice!
We want a budget that reflects restorative practice and builds out a restorative policy that will do the following:
- Eliminate the school to prison pipeline by funding mandatory trauma-informed training and liberatory classroom management training for teachers.
- Eliminate suspension and exclusionary practices and add funding for restorative practice coaches/counselors.
- Fully staff every building and fully fund nurses, counselors, social workers, and psychologist.
- Establish incentives for Exceptional Children's educators.
- Provide funding for additional wellness support for educators and administrators, beyond Employee Assistance Programs.
We are sharing our voices from our various organizations working directly with the Black and Brown community to advocate for students and educators who have been historically marginalized. What has truly brought us together is our shared investment in the success of public schools and that of Black and Brown children.
Pass a budget that reflects inclusivity, restoration, academic excellence, and justice for all.
