In wake of the National Anthem protests as well as the recent killings of unarmed black men, women, and children by police I ask- How can one whose roots are in this country take pride in proudly showing it's flag? Now more than ever African Americans need a flag that we can take pride in. An emoji may seem like a trivial thing to petition for, but while many can proudly add their country's flag to their bios on social media, African Americans can only use the American flag- a flag that doesn’t seem to represent those of us who are of African ancestry but who are born and raised here and only have ties to this country.
