End Modern Day Slavery: Children Forced to Mine Cobalt for Your iPhone’s Battery

End Modern Day Slavery: Children Forced to Mine Cobalt for Your iPhone’s Battery
The Issue
If you are unaware, I’m here to inform you that there have been reports of child labor in DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo). Children as young as 7 are mining cobalt, coltan and other minerals that are used for our smartphones’ battery. They work in life-threatening conditions that have caused many injuries and even deaths. These children get paid less than $1 a day. Amnesty International spoke to a couple of the 40,000 miners:
“Dany, a 15-year-old cobalt miner in DRC, ‘There is lots of dust, it is very easy to catch colds, and we hurt all over.’”
“Mathy, who was forced into mining at age 9, after her father lost his job, ‘I could only eat when I had enough money.’”
We can be a part of this change, a step closer to ending modern day slavery and child labor! These are people’s LIVES!
Please take less than 2 minutes, maybe even less than a minute of your time to sign this petition. You don’t understand how much just signing your name can do to saving people’s lives. Seriously, you wouldn’t want this to be your child.
