Bring back the gavel emoji!

It's the start of the new legal year, a time of excitement and anticipation.
But we can't help feeling this new year is twinged with a hint of sadness.
No, not because of Brexit, not even because the Great British Bake Off is moving to Channel 4, but because iPhone users are STILL gavel emoji-less.
The iconic gavel emoji (pictured) was introduced onto smartphone keyboards some years ago, much to the delight of gavel lovers across the country.
In a shocking twist of fate, the gavel emoji was cruelly torn away from us without explanation, and we will not stand by and accept it anymore.
Why this is important
1. Judge Rinder is flying the gavel flag on Strictly Come Dancing, meaning there is now even more demand for this emoji's return.
2. Readers may be surprised to learn gavels are not actually used in court cases in the UK, so images of gavels on the TV/in newspapers/on iPhone keyboards/etc really wind lawyers up, and that's a fun thing to do.
3. 24,000 new students will begin their law degrees this year and we are convinced the gavel emoji will prove a useful resource for them.
We are calling on the good folk at Apple and The Unicode Consortium to do the right thing and BRING BACK THE GAVEL EMOJI.
