Apple: Please Change Password Policy For Notes.

Apple: Please Change Password Policy For Notes.

The Issue

Everyone forgets passwords, no matter how well organized they are.

Apple has a notes feature where users who are unable to remember their passwords cannot enter their notes or create a new password that allows them access. The reasons why people may be unable to use their passwords vary: some of us, in the bustle of living on this dying planet, simply forget. Others also realize that they can longer use either the Face ID or Touch ID to access their own files. This is an overextension of protection policies that do not serve users, and it is a highly ineffective way to manage password protections. Many users have asked Apple for years to fix this without any response or attempts on their behalf to do so. Although Apple has said that once users forget their passwords they will be unable to enter their notes, the glitches with its Touch and Face ID protocols also mean that users can be barred from these notes through no fault of theirs. Moreover, why should we be unable to enter our own personal documents forever if we make the mistake of forgetting a password?

Note files are really important for a myriad of reasons such as: crucial personal information, creative work and important reminders. For many of us, these notes are precious and all we would like to have access to our own work instead of being barred from it.

We call on Apple to fix this oversight so we can regain access to our notes. Thank you.
