Requesting Kurdistan Flag emoji for iOS and Android

Requesting Kurdistan Flag emoji for iOS and Android
The Issue
As members of the Kurdish community residing in the Kurdistan Region, we find ourselves in a unique position. While we do not possess a sovereign state that we can claim as our own, the flag of the Kurdistan Region emerges as a powerful symbol of our identity, heritage, and the unity of our people. This emblem represents not just the land we live on but the rich history, culture, and aspirations that bind us together as a community.
In today’s world, where digital presence and representation have become almost as significant as physical territories, we feel a strong need to see our identity acknowledged in the digital domain. Specifically, we advocate for the inclusion of the Kurdistan Region flag emoji across major digital platforms and devices, most notably those operating on iOS and Android systems. This gesture would not only validate our sense of community and belonging but also ensure our visibility and representation in the global digital landscape.
Smartphones and digital platforms have become central to the way individuals express themselves and engage with others across the globe. In this context, the absence of the Kurdistan Region flag emoji feels like a noticeable gap in our ability to express our cultural and regional identity. By including our flag among the emojis available on these platforms, Apple, Google, and importantly, the Unicode Consortium—the organization responsible for the standardization and regulation of emoji creation and inclusion across platforms—would send a powerful message of inclusivity and recognition of the diverse cultures that use their systems.
Therefore, we respectfully and earnestly request that Apple, Google, and the Unicode Consortium take this proposal into consideration. The inclusion of the Kurdistan Region flag emoji would be a significant step towards acknowledging the Kurdish community's presence and contribution to the global digital conversation. It would allow us to share a part of our identity with the wider world and symbolize a gesture of respect towards our heritage and the aspirations of our people for recognition and representation.
