Apple has created a number of new emojis including several new animals. One animal missing is the zebra. Adding a zebra isn't just about adding another animal. The zebra has been recognized as the symbol for people with rare diseases. It is shorthand for the aphorism coined in the late 1940s by Dr. Theodore Woodward, professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, who instructed his medical interns: "When you hear hoofbeats, think of horses not zebras." People, such as myself, and numerous friends across the country, with rare diseases are the zebras that often go undiagnosed for years while doctors figure out what is wrong. It is such a small thing for Apple to do but would mean so much to so many people. While I could simply send a comment to Apple to add the zebra, they receive numerous requests for new emojis and I am sure my request would get lost in it all. By simply signing this petition, it would bring to light,  to the people at Apple, that emojis for awareness, such as ribbons and symbols would be a meaningful addition to the collection.
