As negotiations on the formation of the new Government continue in West Malaysia, I wish to appeal to all the Christian Sarawak MPs to make a stand to reject working with PN to form the Federal Government. We pride ourselves in having a multi-racial and multi-religious society and we have managed to co-exist harmoniously for so long. We must not let anything or anyone threaten this harmony.

I condemn PN president Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement last week saying that Jews and Christians are using PH as agents to christianise Malaysia. This dangerous untruth was designed to stoke Muslim anger against Christians and PH. Sarawak Christians reject this statement and we do not want the Sarawak government to partner with PN in any way or form.

I similarly condemn PAS president Hadi Awang for he has shown himself to be a religious and racist bigot whose only political agenda is the implementation of Syariah laws throughout Malaysia. Blaming non-Muslims for the corruption scandals that besiege Malaysia proves that he is a dangerous and self-serving politician who aims to sow hate and distrust among the races. Sarawakians have not forgotten his insulting remarks that Sarawak indigenous communities were “ignorant cawat” (loincloth-wearing) voters who did not know how to vote.

I call on the Christian MPs to be vocal and firm in rejecting PN and PAS. Make a stand to the Premier against partnering with these racists and religious bigots. I hope that whatever decision made by our Sarawak Premier would be done upon full consultation with all the GPS MPs.

Your constituents are watching you closely. Now is the time to show to us that you are truly Sarawak first and that you will preserve our multi-racial and multi-religious society where all religious beliefs are respected.
