This appalling crime has not only devastated the victim’s family but has also sent shockwaves throughout the nation, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive and stringent measures to ensure the safety and security of women in our country.

Details of the Incident:

On the 9th of August, 2024, a young doctor was brutally raped and murdered in Kolkata. The details of this case are heart-wrenching and have left the entire nation in a state of shock and anger. The victim, who dedicated her life to saving others, met with an untimely and tragic end due to the heinous actions of a few individuals. This incident underscores the pressing need for immediate and effective action to prevent such atrocities in the future.

Our Demands:

1. Immediate and Speedy Investigation: We urge the authorities to conduct a swift and thorough investigation into this case. The perpetrators must be apprehended and brought to justice without any delay. We request the formation of a special investigation team to ensure transparency and efficiency in the investigation process.
2. Stricter Laws and Punishments: We demand the formulation and implementation of stricter laws and harsher punishments for rape and sexual assault cases. The current legal framework must be strengthened to act as a strong deterrent against such crimes. We propose the introduction of mandatory minimum sentences for rape and sexual assault, along with the possibility of life imprisonment or capital punishment for the most egregious cases.
3. Fast-Track Courts: The establishment of more fast-track courts dedicated to handling cases of sexual violence is essential. These courts should ensure that justice is delivered promptly, and the legal process is expedited to prevent prolonged trauma for the victims and their families.
4. Victim Support Systems: Enhanced support systems for victims of sexual violence are crucial. This includes providing medical, psychological, and legal assistance to help them recover and rebuild their lives. We also propose the creation of a national fund to support victims and their families.
5. Public Awareness and Education: Initiatives to educate the public about the importance of gender equality and respect are vital. We need comprehensive awareness campaigns to change societal attitudes that perpetuate violence against women. Schools and colleges should incorporate gender sensitization programs into their curricula.
