Apologize for Blatant Discriminatory Message Targeting the Islamic Faith

Stream apologize for blatantly discriminatory and anti-Islam e-mail sent to state legislatures insinuating the paranoid 'dangers of Islam'.

Here is the story on Fox 2 News:

His e-mail read in part, "No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith."

Contact Rep. Rick Stream of Kirkwood, MO. & ask him to apologize for sending such a blatantly discriminatory e-mail about Islam and those individuals and families who follow it.

Please join us in telling Rep. Rick Stream that America is no place for such messages and he should be more adhering to the spirit of our country that encourages acceptance, and rejection of intolerance.

“This is not an isolated incident, rather we’ve witnessed a trend of growing anti-Islam remarks and sentiments at the state capitol that the leadership refuses to acknowledge or take any action against,” said CAIR-St. Louis Executive Director Faizan Syed, who has lived in Stream’s district for most of his life.

I was troubled to see such blatant discrimination in the email message sent by Representative Stream to House colleagues. Our Constitution clearly protects people of all faiths, creeds, and beliefs from discrimination and I do not appreciate the kind of fear-mongering that politicians and laymen alike have been using as an excuse to reduce freedoms, belittle and profane the American Muslim community, and St. Louis in particular. Muslims are peace loving patriotic American who form an integral part of our society and are valuable to our success as a country.

I would encourage you and your colleagues to take positive actions and get to know some of the prominent Muslim leaders, business owners, professors, students, and citizens in St.Louis.

I am asking that you publicly do the following:
1. Apologize to the American Muslim community and the city of Kirkwood for the content of your e-mail.
2. The St. Louis Muslim community is extending a hand of friendship to encourage you to have dinner with them in order to get to know more about their faith and traditions. I would encourage you to accept their offer of kindness and love.
3. Work with leadership of both the House and the Senate in order to curb a troubling trend of anti-Islam and anti-Muslim feelings that are brewing at our State Capitol.

I would like to tell you a quote from a brilliant man, a brave young soldier, a extraordinary politician and statesman, a great war leader and the first President of the United States, to whom the Western world must be forever in his debt George Washington when he said:
"We have abundant reason to rejoice that in this Land the light of truth and reason has triumphed over the power of bigotry and superstition ... In this enlightened Age and in this Land of equal liberty it is our boast, that a man's religious tenets will not forfeit the protection of the Laws, nor deprive him of the right of attaining and holding the highest Offices that are known in the United States." -- George Washington
