In my family we are free thinkers, my dad and I are very creative people we love building things and bringing beauty and arts to our community. My dad, stepmom, and Grammy live in a neighborhood with a Home Owners Association. The HOA has been targeting my dad's house for the past four years that I've lived here. They have consistently sent rudely worded notes to my parents indicating that their choices are ruining the neighborhood. If you haven't dealt with an HOA before then count your blessings. It is troubling to have to tiptoe around outdated rules and regulations in a house that YOU own and pay the bills in.

The main reason for this reason for this particular protest is the most recent debacle my father has faced. For Christmas this past year he built and painted two beautiful mailboxes for him and the neighbor who he shares a mailbox post with. They're red. According to the HOA the mailboxes are out of code. They need to be white, black or brown on a post made of oak. However, there are SEVERAL mailboxes in the neighrborhood that are out of code as well.

I know this seems insignificant and no one will really care. But my dad is my hero, he always stands up for me so I'm here to back him up. The HOA can be good in some ways, but they take things too far over small things like the color of a mailbox. The whole neighborhood loves them and has already signed a petition to battle the HOA and several neighbors have asked my dad to make them one as well.
