Manning Beef is a slaughter house in Pico Rivera.Manning beef slaughters mostly beef cattle.Manning Beef processes about 1,200 cattle a week.

Beginning at 2 a.m. every Monday, Thursday and Friday, steers are loaded into air ride suspension trailers designed to haul cattle at the Brandt Family Ranch south of Salton Sea. Three hours later, they arrive at Manning Beef. This is not always the case. Some cows arrive from Wisconsin, meaning a 4 day trip without food or water. Some also come from Arizona and Kansas. Workers alternate between two jobs: watching the cattle in the pens and killing them with the stun gun. 

Beef cattle are cows raised for meat. They go through mutilation such as being burned with fire irons to be marked for identification or the males having their testicles cut off always without anesthetics. They are fed a unnatural diet of grain and corn. Even if it is "humane", grass fed meat they will fight for their lives when they are being slaughtered. Also eating antibiotic free meat is not the solution or safe. Each year 23,000 people die of it and it is still high in cholesterol and saturated fat and contributes to a person's risk of suffering from heart disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity. They have to endure harsh weather until they are shipped off to slaughter where in the end they will be stunned where it only knocks them unconscious (not dead) and then have their throat slit.

Spent dairy cows who are no longer needed and are useless to the dairy industry are also brought to Manning Beef. Mother cows in the dairy industry are sexually and physically exploited. We steal their babies at birth and deprive them of motherhood, affection and bonding. We impregnate them over and over again for milk. When milk production starts to decline from rapid aging they are sent to slaughter to be made into meat.

Activist bear witness here every Sunday.Those Annoying Vegans and LA Animal Save are joined with many activist to document and share the harsh truth of the cows. They hold a cow vigil to acknowledge their individuality. There is also a pig vigil,chicken vigil and fish vigil.

Manning Beef is the last beef plant left in LA. Since the 1960’s more than 50 packers in the Los Angeles area have closed their doors and Lloyd Manning, the owner of the Manning Beef packing plant, wonders whether its time to shut his down. Let’s help him by letting him know with this petition that the public does not want Manning Beef open either. Something positive can be created but first, Manning Beef must be shut down.
