Anti-Social Behaviour
Anti-Social Behaviour
The Issue
In the past 13 months of my life I have had to deal with anti social behaviour due to a new tenant moving into the property. There has been ongoing issues to smashing of windows, smoking, shouting, loud noises, being woken up at all hours and also being sent home from jobs due to my clothing smelling of weed as it travels through the flats in the building. My neighbours are also affected by this.
I have put in several formal complaints to the police and my housing (Optivo now known as Southern) they have failed to act responsibly and hey have failed me as a paying tenant of 30 years. I feel I have been discriminated against because I am white but also realise this can affect everyone from all sorts of backgrounds, religion, colour and my views are not being heard.
I have been told empty promises of investigations to be actioned, offered £300 in compensation which I refused as my mental health and stability is not worth any of that. I have been struggling with a lot of stress due to not feeling safe which has affected my mental health. I am not eating, sleeping and barely functioning as my anxiety has been really badly affected.
Going forward there needs to be a change in the law to protect people from this crucial behaviour as it can effect even the strongest people's mental state and living state. So many people can be affected by this which can result in people being victims and a lot worse.
I feel like a procedure should be put in place where the housing need to act accordingly and not protect the criminals. As a tenant of 30 years I feel really let down and believe more needs to be put in place, for example, a full investigation from the port of contact, three warnings and believe the person that is telling you this and have somebody work on their side to get the best help. If none of this is actioned I believe the tenant that is causing the anti social behaviour should be evicted.
I feel very strongly about this as I mentioned this is a situation that has affected me long term going forward, after 13 months of hell I am still not getting anywhere. The housing have stated they will move me but but why should it be as simple as myself the tenant of 30 years to be moved.
