Raise Awareness/ Challenge Ethylene Glycol Poisoning
Working in a vets we see too much unnecessary death due to Ethylene Glycol which is a sweet flavoured chemical found in Anti Freeze and other substances listed below.
Dogs have been known to drink the liquid and cats and smaller animals tend to become affected by cleaning drips of Ethylene Glycol from their fur. This substance crystallizes in an animals kidneys and can lead to a painful death unless treated incredibly quickly.
There are other chemicals that can be used that are harmless to animals, Propylene Glycol is one. Winter is tough on our cars but please do think twice before you buy.
If there are genuine reasons that necessitate the use of Ethylene Glycol in particular cases, then we need to apply pressure to change the production process in order to make it repulsive to our pets, a vibrant colour additive would also help make the substance visible to us human owners in many cases.
In addition we need to raise awareness, I have also included a link to a PDSA website that explains the symptoms of anti freeze ingestion:
Thank you for taking the time to read this, let's make this change together.
