Illinois Anti-Declaw Legislation for Cats
Illinois Anti-Declaw Legislation for Cats
The Issue
Declawing involves 10 amputations below the first knuckles. It is unnecessary, painful and lessens the cats ability to defend itself. Eight cities in California (Los Angeles, San Francisco, West Hollywood, Burbank, Santa Monica, Berkeley, Beverly Hills, and Culver City) and the City and County of Denver, Colorado enacted declaw bans. The NIH, CDC, US Public Health Service, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the Canadian Medical Association, have stated that declawing is not advised.
We believe that an anti-declaw bill will be successful in Illinois and we are looking for others who support such legislation. Please help support our mission by signing this petition.
We will be setting up a website with more info and also provide updates
during the legislative process as we move this forward in Springfield.
