Another Hate Rally is Taking Place, Tell Penn No
The Issue
Penn Against the Occupation is preparing for another rally, set to take place this Wednesday at 12:00pm. It is crucial to communicate to the university that affording these students another opportunity to disseminate hateful rhetoric, engage in acts of violence, and draw inappropriate Holocaust comparisons is incongruent with the values of our campus community.
During their previous event on October 16th, UPenn professors made statements such as "Gaza has become Auschwitz." Additionally, one speaker voiced criticism against Hezbollah and Hamas, only to be met with disapproval from the audience. Another speaker declared, "We will not cease violence until there are no more settlers," and yet another stated, "There are no civilians; they are all targets."
Disturbingly, students distributed flyers depicting child hostages across campus, only to have them torn down by others. Evidence of several rally participants violently destroying these images and discarding them in a disrespectful manner has been presented to the Penn police.
The gravity of the situation is further underscored by the fact that one rally attendee is currently in custody for assaulting a Jewish student. Given these circumstances, it is imperative to express to Penn that this form of speech and behavior has no place on our campus. Acts of assault on fellow students are not acceptable and should not grant any privilege to host a rally within our university community.
