Round 2 of Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter vs Caring Volunteers and Animal activists.  

We once again are seeking your assistance by signing our new petition for Buster Brown.  You may recall that we launched a petition for a dog named Titan.  It was successful and Titan gained his freedom with a wonderful rescue in upstate NY.  

Buster Brown is a dog in a very similar situation. Volunteers claim he is gentle and good natured in appearance through the bars of his cage, yearning for human affection, and takes treats gently from hand.  

He also is being kept in isolation with no walks, enrichment time, or time in the play yard.  

Today 08/04 is day 93 that Buster Brown has not seen the light of day, breathed fresh air, or had any escape from the noisy confines of his cell! 

Confined to this concrete cell, his prolonged and inhumane confinement is an unjust punishment with no end in sight.   Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, its Management staff, and Town Officials have really learned nothing from past mistakes about mislabeling dogs, and unilaterally dooming them inhumanely to extended life in a prison cell.

We are requesting a proper evaluation by a qualified professional behaviorist and trainer. 

Once an accurate assessment is obtained then a proper plan for him can be implemented.  

We are dedicated to raising  funds through pledges to attract qualified rescues who can rehabilitate him for potential future adoption and to help offset their costs.. 

We must get him to safety soon. As of the writing of this petition, 93 days  have passed, and every passing day increases Buster Brown's likelihood of mental breakdown.

In addition, another dog who had been housed at the same shelter for 4 long years named Butchy was euthanized after an incident involving a volunteer.  

Allegedly,  Shelter staff and volunteers were at fault for not following their own procedures and Butchy paid the ultimate price.   He had a rescue hold and was due to leave the shelter on his freedom ride on Sunday 07/27 which had to be rescheduled.  They killed him 7/29/31, just 2 days after this unfortunate incident, and only days before his long awaited chance at a better life.  Butchy’s  advocates are heartbroken.  Only evil people lacking in compassion would be capable of such behavior.  Therefore, it is most urgent that we find a solution for Buster Brown and prevent another devastating outcome. 

We are pushing for reform at TOHAS but we have met much resistance from politicians and their appointees.
