Supporters,
If you watched the City Council meeting on 8/17/20 (watch here) you probably observed that the sentiment among City Council members is still 2 in favor of the HRC, 3 opposed. The 4-1 vote to keep the Human Rights Commission is not necessarily a vote to support it in the future. Our Commission will need resources to be successful and will be at risk of being stifled or neglected going forward.
How can we prevent this?
We have an election coming up and Anoka residents can be heard again. Council Member Wesp, who feels quite strongly that the HRC should not be a City Commission, is up for reelection. There will also be an open open seat to be filled. Look back at who has been in leadership over the last 8 years as our HRC was silenced. I encourage you to research the candidates (see the link below), ask questions, and support those who will empower the Human Rights Commission. If you live in the surrounding communities, talk to your family and friends in Anoka whose vote can make this happen!
