As a resident of the Jefferson R7 School District, I am deeply concerned about the current situation regarding our school district. Growing up near the Airport and attending R7 until 8th grade, this issue is personal to me. I believe it is time to take action and address the unjust treatment of us, the taxpayers of the Jefferson R7 School District.

The current arrangement has left our district at a disadvantage in terms of representation and resources. The neighboring communities of Festus and Crystal City have been overseeing our tax dollars for far too long without considering our unique needs and concerns. It is time for us to reclaim control over our hard earned finances by petitioning for annexation from these neighboring districts.

Here are some relevant facts that support this petition:

1. Lack of Representation at the County Level:Under the current arrangement, decisions regarding tax abatements, funding allocation, and policies are made by individuals who may not fully understand or prioritize the specific needs of Jefferson R7 School District students and families.

Academic Performance: Despite facing numerous challenges due to limited resources, the Jefferson R7 School District has shown remarkable resilience with consistent academic achievements over the years. By annexing from Festus and Crystal City districts, we can ensure that these achievements continue to be recognized while providing an opportunity for further growth.

3. Community Cohesion: Annexation would foster a stronger sense of community within the Jefferson R7 School District as decisions would be made locally by individuals who understand our unique circumstances firsthand.

It is crucial that we take action now to rectify this unjust situation by putting a measure on the ballot for annexation. By doing so, we can ensure fair representation, equal resource distribution, and a brighter future for the students of Jefferson R7 School District.
