Anne-Marie Trevelyan: Please apologize for sharing racist photo.
The Issue
Anne-Marie Trevelyan is MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed and Secretary of State for International Development.
On 23rd May 2020 it came to light she had shared a racist photo in a WhatsApp group. This group was centred around parliamentary business and contained other MPs.
The photo is, as well as being an outdated stereotype, offensive, and casually racist. It also comes off the back of a significant recent spike in hate crimes against the East Asian community.
This behaviour is unacceptable from anyone - least of all an MP and Cabinet Minister.
As of 16:30 on 24th May 2020 there has been no statement from either Anne-Marie Trevelyan or the Government.
We demand an acknowledgement that this behaviour is unacceptable, and a formal apology from Anne-Marie Trevelyan herself.
