Make Queensland Day a public holiday

The Issue

The current government has moved the Queen's Birthday holiday to October 3rd,  and so we have now lost a public holiday in June. The June long weekend has always been an established holiday for groups to plan activities, or families to go camping. It was perfect having a long weekend in the middle of the year, and now there is nothing in between April and October.

I would like to propose that the QLD government adds a public holiday in June to celebrate Queensland Day. We already celebrate QLD day on the 6th of June, to commemorate when we became our own independent state in 1859. With the Queen's Birthday now moved to later in the year, this is the perfect chance to make Queensland Day its own public holiday to celebrate the achievements of our state.
