Protect local businessman Gary Hendrickson and his community business from court action by Unity Homes and Enterprise, brought about by the alleged criminal activity of a Unity employee.
The Issue
Gary Hendrickson is a local community businessman and his business; Taste Café, is known, loved and patronised by people who live and work in Chapeltown and Oakwood, Leeds.
Taste provides delicious, fresh, healthy food at reasonable prices. The quality of the food served is high, the staff are friendly and efficient and the surroundings are modern and comfortable. Gary has worked hard to provide a professional service, expand his business and in doing so, to provide training and employment to local people who might otherwise be without employment.
Now Gary, his staff and the community stand to lose this gem of an establishment, due to the alleged actions of the landlord's (Unity Homes and Enterprises) own employee. Despite Gary being able to prove payment of the rent on his commercial premises over a two year period, Unity Homes and Enterprises has continued to bring a court action against him and Gary now has a CCJ against his good name too! Please see the following Yorkshire Evening Post article:
We must all strive to protect our small businesses and in doing so we acknowledge the struggle, hard work of their owners and their vulnerability too. Without small businesses such as Taste Café, our local high streets become characterless places which ignore the needs of local residents and workers. Do we really want high streets where only big businesses can afford the rents set by uncaring landlords?
Please help us to save Taste Café; please support Gary Hendrickson and let's take positive action to control what happens to small businesses in our unique communities.
